Shang Daily, an English newspaper published in Shanghai, will officially
launch its paperless guide to the city-Live in Shanghai-on the paper's
Website (www.shanghaidaily.com) today (October 23).

The guide provides useful information about life in Shanghai for
newcomers as well as expatriates who have been living here for a while
but still need help finding the most up-to-date information about the
ever-changing metropolis.

The first phase consists of four sections: fast facts, transport, housing
and miscellaneous.

The fast facts section contains essential information about the city,
including sections on Shanghai's history, weather, dialect and food.

The transport section gives users easy-to-follow, friendly and real-life
instructions on how to get around Shanghai.

The housing section includes information on how to find, rent or buy an
apartment in town. The miscellaneous section includes information on many
day-to-day issues, such as health, pets, having a child and banking.

Every section is equipped with vivid flash animation instructions,
first-person interview audio clips and ready-to-print PDF files. There
are even MP3 downloads to teach users how to say numbers and daily
phrases in both standard Mandarin and Shanghai dialect.

Shortly after Live in Shanghai was launched on a trial basis on October
10, it began receiving positive reviews.

Shanghaiist.com, a blog about life in the city, said: "We have to say we
are impressed. Helpful and comprehensive, the site covers most of the
basics any newcomer to the city would want to know."

Shanghai Daily will maintain the site to make sure its information is
regularly updated and develop new sections to offer an even-better
paperless guide to the city. Readers can leave a comment on the site or
e-mail online@shanghaidaily.com.
